Six months after receiving their diplomas, 96 percent of engineering, science and mathematics graduates in the Class of 2017 are employed in their first post-graduate jobs, studying for master’s and doctorate degrees or serving the country as commissioned military officers.

The rate continues the 95 percent-or-better career placement statistics of graduating classes from the past decade, even in a 2016-17 academic year in which the institute presented an all-time high 521 bachelor’s degrees, according to Kevin Hewerdine, director of career services and employer relations.

“Our largest graduating class provided more opportunities for employers and graduate schools to get students with the skills in science, engineering and math that continue to be in high demand,” said Hewerdine.

Hewerdine also points out that Rose-Hulman’s career placement statistics cover all members of each year’s graduating class, not just those that have used the office’s services and participated in a career- or graduate-school fair on campus.

For the Class of 2017, students majoring in three science programs—chemistry, biology and physics—joined graduates in civil engineering, optical engineering, engineering physics and international computer science in having 100-percent placement rates this year.

Other features of the Class of 2017 Placement Report are:

• The average accepted job offer was $67,441, with three computer-related majors having job offers exceeding $100,000.

• Companies hiring the most graduates included Rockwell Collins, Google, Texas Instruments, SpaceX, ArcelorMittal, Northrop Grumman, Ford Motor Company, Honeywell, Rolls Royce, Chrysler, Eli Lilly and Company, Interactive Intelligence, Zimmer Biomet, International Paper, Naval Sea System Command, Valeo, AutoCar, Milwaukee Tool, Wynright, kCura, Allegient, Edgile, Kiewit and Clarke Engineering Services.

• Sixteen percent of the graduates are now attending graduate schools throughout the country. These colleges include Vanderbilt University, California Institute of Technology, Georgia Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, Duke University, Brown University, University of Notre Dame, Cornell University, Texas A&M University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of California, Purdue University, University of Illinois and Indiana University.

• A total of 815 companies had activity with the Office of Career Services and 371 companies recruited on campus during the 2016-17 school year –both ranking second in all-time statistics. Approximately 1,700 interviews were conducted on campus.

• An all-time high of 64 students participated in co-op programs in 2016-17, getting valuable training to begin their post-graduate careers.
